Site development takeoffs & consulting

We turn your plan set
into cubic yards.

Earthwork quantities, GPS machine-control models and estimating support for grading and utility contractors. You send the plans. We do the counting. You get back to moving dirt.

What a takeoff actually is

Every bid starts with one question: how much dirt moves?

We build a digital surface of the ground as it sits today and a second surface of the ground as the plans want it. The difference between those two surfaces is your number. Where you cut, where you fill, and what you haul.

Drag the marker across the site to read any point along it. This is the same output you get back, priced, phased and tied to real coordinates.

Scope of work

Six things we quantify

Take the whole site or take one line item. Most contractors start with earthwork and add scopes once they see how the numbers come back.

  • Earthwork takeoffs

Cut, fill, topsoil strip and respread, undercut, subgrade and haul. Broken out by phase or by area so you can bid it the way you build it.

  • GPS modeling

Machine-control surfaces built from your plans and loaded to the box, whether you run Trimble, Topcon or Leica. Your operators grade to the model, not to stakes.

  • Site demolition & land clearing

Clearing and grubbing acreage, tree counts, building and slab demo, pavement removal, and the tonnage headed to the landfill.

  • Erosion control

Silt fence, construction exits, inlet protection, check dams, matting and basin volumes, all measured off the NPDES sheets, phase by phase.

  • Storm systems

Pipe by size and material, structures, headwalls, rip-rap, trench excavation and stone bedding, with trench depths driven by the inverts.

  • Site utilities

Sanitary sewer, water main, fire service and dry-utility conduit. Lengths, fittings, valves, services and the excavation that goes with them.

How it works

Four stations, plans to bid

  1. 0+00

    Send the plans

Email the PDF set: civil, grading, utility, erosion, whatever you have. Addenda too. We'll tell you same-day what's missing and what it'll cost.

  2. 1+00

    We build the surfaces

Existing contours and proposed grades get digitized into two triangulated surfaces, checked against spots, and reconciled with the plan's own callouts.

  3. 2+00

    You get the quantities

A quantity report you can drop straight into your estimate, a cut/fill map you can hand the super, and the model files if you're running machine control.

  4. 3+00

    You bid it and go

Questions on a line item, a revision after addendum, a what-if on a balance point? Just call. We stay on the job until the bid is out the door.

Who we are

Estimating is a full-time job. So is running crews.

Digital Dirt is an independent takeoff and consulting shop serving the construction industry. We run the most advanced earthwork and modeling software available, and we tailor every deliverable to the way your outfit actually estimates: your phases, your codes, your spreadsheet.

The point is leverage. Bid more work without hiring another estimator, and put the hours you were spending on plan sheets back into the field.

Give our clients as much information as possible, so the time they spend preparing accurate estimates comes down.

We'll send back the numbers.

Attach the plan set, tell us the bid date and which scopes you want priced. If you'd rather talk it through first, the phone is faster.
